Ornatops Matte Print - grayscale watercolor and graphite scan
This is a museum-quality poster made on thick matte paper, printed from the raw scan of my grayscale watercolor and graphite illustration of Ornatops incantatus. Ornatops is genus of brachylophosaur hadrosaur that was discovered in the Late Cretaceous Menefee Formation of New Mexico by the paleontological field crew from the Western Science Center in Hemet CA. This illustration was originally created as part of the Western Science Center's "Prehistoric Pathways" exhibit, where a digitally colored version is now displayed alongside the fossil skull bones of Ornatops.
For most of my pieces of digitally-painted artwork I start with a traditionally executed grayscale drawing, which helps me to focus on composition, lighting & shadow, form and to render surface texture in a way that is almost impossible in other art mediums. This print is made from the un-edited scan of my original art work, with all of the sketch lines, erasure marks, drips of water color and human imperfections that arise from it being an organic expression of human hands. This ultra high resolution print is as close as you can get to owning the original grayscale art work without actually owning the original artwork.
Actual print is not watermarked.
The 11”×14”, 16”×20”, and 18”×24” sizes are the closest aspect ratio to the original art. The 12”x16” 20”x30” and 24”x36” sizes are cropped in more top to bottom. Measurements are in inches.
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 189 g/m²
• Opacity: 94%
• ISO brightness: 104%
• Paper is sourced from Japan
